Anastasia Rakova: in Moscow they will begin to use new robotic surgeons in joint replacement

A new robotic surgical system will begin to be used for joint replacement in City Clinical Hospital No. 13. The innovation will help maximize the accuracy of implant placement.

“In Moscow, we focus on the development of minimally invasive high-tech operations performed with the help of robot-assisted systems. This is happening due to the implementation of a large-scale program to equip hospitals with modern equipment and constantly improve the qualifications of doctors,” said Moscow Vice-Mayor for Social Development Anastasia Rakova.

She added that over the past 5 years in Moscow the number of operations using robots in neurosurgery, oncology and other areas of medicine has increased 1.5 times. For example, a new compact robotic system with AI was recently installed in City Clinical Hospital No. 13. It is needed for total knee replacement surgeries. The robot generates an individual surgical plan based on a 3D model, which is created using computed tomography. Such operations are distinguished by exceptional precision of implant placement, which reduces the risk of complications and ensures long-term and comfortable use of the endoprosthesis by the patient. And thanks to the low level of trauma, city residents can quickly return to a full life. The operation itself lasts on average about 45 minutes. At the same time, the surgeon has the opportunity to make adjustments to the surgical plan during the intervention.
