At a concert in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack near the Crocus City Hall building, excerpts from Sergei Prokovev’s “Romeo and Juliet” were performed. Before the orchestra began, at 19:52, there was a minute of silence.
The orchestra was conducted by Valery Gergiev, artistic director of the Mariinsky Theater and general director of the Bolshoi Theater. Near the stage, figures of cranes were laid out from lit candles.
Between the musicians’ performances, several eyewitnesses of the terrorist attack told what happened during the attack and how they managed to escape. One of the victims said that she lost consciousness from the smoke and was carried out of the Crocus building by a man who helped rescue people.
The concert took place on the ninth day after the terrorist attack. In the afternoon, flowers were laid at the memorial at Crocus City Hall. To the ceremony arrived including representatives of 130 diplomatic missions and international organizations.
On the evening of March 22, several armed men opened fire on visitors to Crocus City Hall, after which they set the building on fire. According to the latest data, 144 people were killed, the number of victims increased to 551.
