On the next anniversary of the release of Russian citizen Maria Butina from prison in the United States, her portrait and the inscription: “Russians do not surrender” were projected onto the house of the US Embassy in Moscow. RIA Novosti reports this.

The inscription has been translated into English

Maria Butina was arrested by American authorities and was accused of “conspiracy to illegally work as a foreign agent.” By decision of an American court, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison; she spent 9 months in prison. Butina was later deported to the Russian Federation.

Butina’s case was very resonant. She herself did not admit her guilt.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that US authorities were hunting for Russians around the world. According to his estimates, more than 100 Russians are currently serving sentences in US prisons.
