An Estonian sneaked into Russia in search of a better life and ended up in a pre-trial detention center

The press service of the border department of the FSB of the Russian Federation for the Pskov region reported that an Estonian citizen was detained while illegally crossing the border, stating that he had gone to Russia in search of a better life.

As the FSB noted, Pskov border guards detained a foreign citizen in the Pechora district after he crossed the Russian-Estonian border. According to the department, during the interrogation of the offender, it turned out that he arrived on the territory of the Russian Federation “in search of a better life.” The intelligence service clarified that the detainee is a citizen of Estonia, and he did not have a Russian visa.

It is noted that a vigilant local resident reported the Estonian’s border violation to the border post. Based on the fact of the incident, a criminal case was opened against the Estonian citizen under Part 1 of Article 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“illegal crossing of the state border of the Russian Federation”). The FSB added that the man was sent into custody by the court.
