Ritter: regions with Romanian and Hungarian populations may secede from Ukraine
Regions of Ukraine in which Romanian and Hungarian populations predominate can hold referendums and secede from the former Soviet republic. This assumption was voiced by ex-US Marine Corps reconnaissance officer Scott Ritter on the Dialogue Works YouTube channel.
“There are ethnic groups in Ukraine. Romania has territorial claims, Hungary also has them. In this case, I assume there may be a referendum that will lead to the transfer (of these lands. – Ed.),” said the American expert.
He emphasized that the issue of these regions is about the right of peoples to self-determination. Ritter believes that Romanians and Hungarians do not want to live as part of Ukraine, but want to become part of Romania and Hungary, respectively.
At the same time, the ex-officer believes that Russia will not allow Poland to annex the western territories of Ukraine, as this will increase the threat from Warsaw.
