Residents of Oklahoma were frightened by creatures that settled in a reservoir

Photos of strange creatures living in the McGee Creek Reservoir in Oklahoma have caused concern among local residents. The images show jelly-like balls stuck together, leading some people to speculate that the creatures “must have come from outer space,” reports Daily Mail.

However, representatives of the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation assured the public that these creatures are bryozoans that have existed on Earth for hundreds of millions of years and appeared long before dinosaurs. Due to climate change, the number of bryozoans will increase significantly this summer.

Authorities emphasized that bryozoans play an important role in cleaning water bodies, as they filter tiny particles from the water, using them as food.

Although these creatures have been nicknamed “alien pods” on social media, they are actually made up of zooids – individual colonial organisms. Bryozoans do not have a central nervous system, but are able to respond to stimuli. They feed on phytoplankton and bacteria living in the water.

These amazing creatures appeared on Earth 470 million years ago and may have descended from an ancient sea worm.
