Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said at a conference at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Caribbean crisis that Russian-American relations have not yet reached their lowest level. He expressed the hope that Russia and the United States, despite all the difficulties, are not on the verge of a nuclear conflict.
“Many additional factors and moments have appeared that were not there before,” the diplomat said. “The feeling is that we have not yet reached the lowest level in Russian-American relations.”
With each passing day, what is still glimmering in the contacts between the two states, according to him, “is fading away more and more.”
“I would like to believe that we have not come with the Americans to the dangerous threshold of falling into the abyss of a nuclear conflict,” the ambassador said. “Russia is committed to the formula that there can be no winners in a nuclear war,” Antonov stressed.
