American corporation Amazon added support for authentication without passwords (passkey) for authorization on the online store website and in the mobile application. Currently, the function only works for mobile applications based on iOS; the feature will be available for Android later.

It allows you to log into your account using biometric data from your devices, such as a fingerprint or facial scan, as well as a PIN code. This is possible thanks to a cryptographic token that is transferred between the smartphone and the website.

The passkey system is actively promoted by large technology companies. Previously Google announced, which will now prompt users to set a default passkey. Microsoft and Apple also support passwordless authentication. In companies started talking about the new system in May 2022 and hope to make passkey the new security standard in the future.
