almost 35 thousand SVO participants and members of their families are studying at universities – Kommersant

The Ministry of Education and Science reported that almost 35 thousand participants in the special operation and members of their families are studying at Russian universities. More than 800 of them completed a transfer from paid to budget-funded education.

“Currently, as a result of the admissions campaign, 1.2 thousand SVO participants and 8.1 thousand members of their families have entered. 448 SVO participants and 420 of their children were transferred to free education. In total, 12,855 SVO participants and 21,643 family members of SVO participants are studying at universities,” said Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Konstantin Mogilevsky (quoted from TASS).

In July, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Dmitry Afanasyev reportedthat in 2023, under the quota for SVO participants and their children, about 7 thousand applicants entered universities. In September it was reported that the number of students enrolled under this quota was more than 8.5 thousand people. In total, in 2023, universities were allocated 626,278 budget places.

At the end of 2022, President Vladimir Putin signed a law according to which the children of participants in the special operation, as well as heroes of Russia and holders of the Order of Courage, will be able to study at universities under a quota. They were required to allocate at least 10% of all places for enrollment.
