All-Russian taekwondo competitions started in Magnitogorsk

Tournament “Brother” is held in the city of metallurgists for the 14th time. Traditionally, the competitions are dedicated to the memory of the soldiers who fell in the hot spots. Today, November 25, is the first competitive day, within which the grand opening took place.

The history of the tournament began in 2007. The very first competition gathered only 50-80 participants. Since then, the level has grown significantly: the competitions have become all-Russian and are included in the calendar plan of the Ministry of Sports. In recent years, about 800 participants have come to Magnitogorsk. According to Dmitry Lem, executive director of the Olympic Taekwondo Federation of Magnitogorsk, in certain years the number of athletes exceeded 1,000 people. For example, 1200 taekwondo athletes gathered in 2013. Then a delegation of taekwondo fighters from Korea arrived in Magnitogorsk – a demonstration team of the Kukkiwon Academy.

This year the tournament is attended by about 800 taekwondo fighters in several age categories – 10-12, 14-15 and adults.

“The “Brother” tournament in Russia is famous for the fact that, based on the results of the competition, they can be awarded the title of master of sports or candidate for master of sports. Previously, there were two such qualifying tournaments in the Chelyabinsk region, this year only ours has remained. Therefore, the competition is strong, the struggle is serious, the fights are difficult, ”said Dmitry Lem.

Competitions are dedicated to soldiers who died in hot spots. Traditionally, the guests of honor at the tournament are combat veterans, special forces officers. Every year, at the opening ceremony, active special forces performed with demonstration performances. However, this year, for obvious reasons, their participation did not take place. But young athletes from the Olympic Taekwondo Federation of Magnitogorsk performed before the audience.

In the sports world, the tournament has long gained popularity. The organizers answer that even souvenir products bring fame to the competition. Each participant is given a T-shirt with the symbols of “Brothers”. Athletes love to wear them in the gym, other competitions and even international camps. The organizers add that these T-shirts can be found in almost every taekwondo gym.

The tournament runs for two days. During this time, 60 sets of medals will be played. Tomorrow will be the second and final day of the competition.
