All-Russian karate competitions “Memory Cup of Hero of the Soviet Union Colonel Grigory Ivanovich Boyarinov” will be held in Smolensk

In Smolensk, at the Yubileiny Sports Palace, on December 9 and 10, the All-Russian karate competition “Memory Cup of the Hero of the Soviet Union Colonel G.I. Boyarinov” will be held. The tournament was organized by the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Smolensk region, the regional organization of veterans of security agencies with the participation of the regional Government and the Russian Karate Federation LLC.
Smolensk is hosting such competitions for the 14th time. This year the tournament will bring together karatekas from 22 regions of Russia and guests from the Republic of Belarus. Participants will be able to demonstrate their skills, receive memorable diplomas and prizes, and also fulfill the standards for receiving the title “Master of Sports of Russia.”
The event is dedicated to the memory of the Hero of the Soviet Union, State Security Colonel Grigory Ivanovich Boyarinov, who was born in the village of Sukromlya, Ershichi district, Smolensk region. Colonel Boyarinov was the head of the Officer Improvement Courses (CUOS), organized within the framework of the KGB of the USSR. In the summer of 1979, he, the commander of the Zenit special forces detachment of the KGB of the USSR, participated in the storming of Amin’s palace in Afghanistan. He died in December of the same year.
