All parking meters are being dismantled in Moscow

Parking meters on Moscow streets will soon be removed, such a decision was made by the city authorities, Kommersant reports. Card payment devices are practically not used in the city. According to the Moscow Department of Transport, less than 1% of all parking user transactions occur through parking meters, while 95% of payments are made through mobile applications. In 2022, the mayor’s office spent more than 100 million rubles on servicing parking meters alone.

The city state unitary enterprise “Directorate of Transport Procurement” of Moscow is holding a tender for the dismantling of 590 street parking meters, the total cost of which is 11.7 million rubles. The call for applications ended on July 14. The contractor will remove devices, restore asphalt or tiles, and clean up debris. The structures of the parking meters will be dismantled along with the concrete base.

The first parking meters were installed in Moscow in 2012, when paid parking zones appeared. The initial models of parking meters were Parkeon and Cake. Since 2014, the mayor’s office has signed contracts worth more than 1.7 billion rubles for the installation and maintenance of parking meters, according to official public procurement data.

The authorities promise to leave the 80 most popular parking meters near medical institutions, train stations, shopping centers, markets and other places. The remaining parking meters will be dismantled within 30 days after the signing of the contract, that is, by the end of summer.
