In Melbourne, the Russian final turned out: 15-year-old Alina Korneeva and Mirra Andreeva entered the court, who in the world rankings occupied 553rd and 292nd places, respectively. However, in the decisive match, the difference in numbers did not matter much. The duel, which lasted 3 hours and 19 minutes, brought victory to Korneeva – 6:7 (2:7), 6:4, 7:5.
Before Alina, this peak had already been conquered by young Russian tennis players. In 2006 and 2007, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova took over, in 2009 – Ksenia Pervak, in 2014 – Elizaveta Kulichkova.
With a “Russian accent”, the finals for adults also turned out. A native of Moscow, Elena Rybakina, who now defends the colors of Kazakhstan, fought with Arina Sobolenko from Belarus and lost – 6:4, 3:6, 4:6. And in men, the Greek athlete Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is the grandson of the Olympic football champion Sergei Salnikov, could not cope with the Serb Novak Djokovic – 3:6, 6:7 (4:7), 6:7 (5:7).
