Alexey Serebryakov: New Little Red Riding Hood

On September 22, 2022, the film “Little Red Riding Hood” will be released in Russia, which will reveal the secret of the last Volkoboy.

Viewers will see a prequel to the famous fairy tale by Charles Perrault. Little Red Riding Hood, who entered the tender age of a teenager, is trying to find out the secret of her origin.

The central roles of this adventure fantasy blockbuster are played by Yuri Chursin, Ekaterina Klimova, Irina Rozanova, Nino Ninidze, Vladimir Dolinsky, Ivan Kokorin. Little Red Riding Hood was played by sixteen-year-old Taisiya Kalinina.

And Alexei Serebryakov played the leader of the pack of Wolves, Vestar.

“This is an interesting, high-quality and truly exciting movie for the whole family,” says Alexei Serebryakov. Which, of course, is a rarity these days. But our film is just that. I was encouraged by the offer to play Vestar, because the fantasy genre requires an actor to have a special way of being in the frame. In my opinion, we got a very bright story about overcoming fears, about family values ​​and how important it is to make the right choice.

The action of the picture touches upon the events preceding the birth of Little Red Riding Hood, shedding light on the mystery of her origin. Two warring families – practically Montagues and Capulets – came together in a duel. Some of them – the Wolfslayers – protect the fairy-tale city, others – the aggressive predators of the Werewolves, are trying to take it. But not by storm at all, they use more sophisticated methods, as they are able to turn into people at will. The century-old agreement, according to which the Wolves should not leave the territory of the forest, is violated: a pack of predators, in spite of everything, decides to finally capture the town.

Little Red Riding Hood’s father (Danila Yakushev), Wolfboy, bravely fights the Pack, but dies in an unequal battle. Meanwhile, Little Red Riding Hood’s mother Marie (Ekaterina Klimova) and grandmother (Irina Rozanova) manage to escape and escape. From now on, Wolves rule the Fairy Kingdom. So Little Red Riding Hood is born when her father is no longer alive. The heroine learns about the history of his “disappearance” only at the age of 12, when her mother and grandmother decide to tell her the terrible truth about the death of Volkoboy and about the girl’s belonging to the family of defenders. From this moment begins the story of the growing up of a little heroine, who must overcome childhood fears and make her first important decision – to stand up for the whole city.

The film is sure to impress the audience with the scale of the scenery, the images of the main and secondary characters, as well as the curious visual effects, on which the project team has been working for almost two years. The artists paid great attention to the seven characters of the Wolf Pack, each of which is a personality with its own unique character and demeanor.

Unique images were created by famous stylists Igor Gulyaev and Dmitry Vinokurov. These professionals tried to do their best to make the cinema, fashion, fashion industry unite into an incredibly interesting picture.

The film is directed by Alexander Barshak and Artem Aksenenko.

The picture raises an important social theme of growing up, teenage experiences and searches for oneself, as well as the relationship of maturing children with their parents.

“It was very important for us,” says general producer Lina Arifulina, “to show Little Red Riding Hood in a new format for a new generation of teenagers. We have rethought the plot, combining the classic traditions of Russian fairy tales and films with the latest technologies and filming methods. Our viewer is now completely different, he looks differently, perceives everything through the prism of the game, dynamics, and therefore it was very important for us to combine these conditions, while maintaining the foundations of a fairy tale, meanings, the importance of understanding and eternity. The film has a very strong dramatic background – this is the acceptance of the absence of a father, decision-making – something that is not easy for teenagers. And our Little Red Riding Hood goes through a difficult emotional journey before taking responsibility. We wanted our film to become a landmark for the current generation, as the cult Red Riding Hood of ’77 once became.

It was not difficult for Taisiya Kalinina to create the image of Little Red Riding Hood, because the experiences of the heroine are close and understandable to her by age.

“I had freedom of action in creating my role,” says Taisiya Kalinina, “because this is not Little Red Riding Hood from a fairy tale, this is a different heroine, she is the same teenager as me. She has her dreams, her desires. This is not just a story where someone runs away from someone and is saved, this is a film about a growing person. Throughout the film, I needed to lead the thread of change as she gives up her fears, embraces loss, and defends what she holds dear.

Ekaterina Klimova, who played Marie, the mother of Little Red Riding Hood, believes that she was incredibly lucky to star in fantasy.

“This is happiness for an artist,” says Ekaterina Klimova. – You can come to the premiere of such a movie with your children, watch a beautiful, colorful story, forget about everything, plunge into the world of fairy tales and adventures. It’s always great, especially when good triumphs over evil. In my filmography, this was the first picture of this level and this genre. I hope that we managed to build a dialogue with the audience in the same sincere language as in our favorite fairy tales.

Part of the proceeds from the film’s income will be donated to children left without parental care.
