Alexander Vasiliev: “Pugacheva, like Gurchenko, has a lot of clothes for show”

The famous fashion historian Alexander Vasiliev celebrates his birthday. The TV presenter is 64 years old. Vasilyev will celebrate the holiday in Moscow, and then fly abroad. He told MK about himself and about his famous “smart” collection.
“I celebrate my birthday happy, cheerful, joyful and energetic,” says Alexander. – I will celebrate in a well-known Moscow restaurant, in the company of my students and fans.
– What can make you happy today?
– The most pleasant gift for today is vintage things. Many people bring me beautiful dresses, wonderful accessories: bags, shoes, jewelry, vintage perfumes. It’s always good. But, of course, the smile and joy on my face and the faces of my guests is more important. Because I already have everything else. And if something is not there, then I can buy it myself.
– Aren’t you offended that popularity came to you in the second half of your life?
On the contrary, I’m happy. I lived almost thirty years abroad, in France. Since 1982. People just don’t know what I was doing there. It seemed to many that he beat the buckets. No. I designed 120 performances on the best stages of the world, created a huge number of exhibitions, wrote many books, taught in 4 languages. And then he came to Moscow. My fame in Russia is associated with the Fashion Sentence, where I arrived rather late. Then I was about 50 years old.
— You regularly hold exhibitions. Have people lost interest in stars?
– People love to be nostalgic, look at the dresses of Orlova, Luchko or Polishchuk. The outfits of Shulzhenko, Zykina, Voronets are always very popular. I have the largest collection in Russia: about half a million items in total.
Do you buy dresses from artists?
— No, all the dresses were gifts. Alla Pugacheva, for example, presented me with 16 of her outfits. We agreed to meet, I came to her castle. She showed me her wardrobe and I chose. Alla Borisovna has a very large collection of dresses. Many costumes from different eras and times.
– Were you shocked by Alla’s wardrobe?
– Not. Every sought-after singer – and she was number one on the stage – has a lot of outfits. Just like Lyudmila Gurchenko. After her death, 300 dresses remained. They gave me four, then two more.
Is it difficult to store clothes?
– Very hard. They are stored in different countries. My largest vault is located abroad. There is a room of 2000 square meters. In Moscow, the storage is more modest – only 150 meters, unfortunately.
– Alexander, what does not suit you now?
“Human stupidity to deal with. It annoys me when people don’t want to learn, when they lack logic. I believe that first you need to think, and then speak or do.
– What are you dreaming about now?
– I really want interesting TV projects to resume, even if they are on other channels. While I am on the contract of Channel One. But it ends on December 31, 2022. What will happen next, I do not know yet. I also dream that all my planned trips come true. In the near future I have planned trips to India, Iran and Turkey. I will look at the art and culture of these countries, feel the smells, aromas, beauty…
– Does your significant other travel with you? By the way, you never advertised your personal life!
Why should I advertise it? I like the element of mystery. My colleagues do things differently, but that’s their right. I believe that a person’s personal life is purely personal. And then, at my age, be afraid of God, this is no longer a priority!
