The Control and Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Football Union (FTC RFU) held a meeting at which several decisions were made regarding the resonant episodes of the match of the 28th round of the Russian Premier League Spartak – CSKA, which ended with a score of 2: 1 in favor of the hosts. Spartak striker Alexander Sobolev, who received a red card from referee Sergei Karasev for an obscene gesture towards Brazilian defender Willian Roshi, was suspended for four matches. According to the head of the committee, Artur Grigoryants, the striker’s act “is of a cynical nature,” in addition, this is not the first gross violation of Sobolev, although previous offenses were under other articles of the regulation. Spartak has already stated that it will appeal against the decision of the FTC, having received its full text.
Also, the FTC canceled the red card received by Willian Rocha, who tried to draw the attention of the judges to Sobolev’s actions with the same obscene gesture. “There was no definite intention in the player’s actions to offend the assistant or anyone, and the gesture he showed with the help of“ body language ”was due to the player’s lack of knowledge of Russian or English and was an explanation of Sobolev’s behavior,” the message says on the official website of the RFU. In addition, the FTC fined CSKA midfielder Sasha Zdelar for shouting at line referee Dmitry Cheltsov in the under-tribune room for 50 thousand rubles, and Spartak was forbidden to let spectators into the D-120 sector for the first home match of the season for chanting profanity 2023/24.
Meanwhile, the Expert Referee Commission under the President of the Russian Football Union (ESK RFU) recognized the decision of the referees not to count the goal of Spartak midfielder Mikhail Ignatov against CSKA in the 21st minute due to offside, which actually was not. Also, the ESC RFU noted that Karasev correctly did not assign a penalty to CSKA in the 83rd minute of the match and correctly pointed to the 11-meter mark in the 87th minute, after which Quincy Promes scored the decisive goal.
