Alexander Beglov congratulated St. Petersburg residents on the 80th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad

Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov made a speech addressing the residents of the city on the Neva and all Russians. On a memorable date – the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade – the mayor recalled that this is the most important date of 2024.

“Leningrad survived, it was not broken by bombing and artillery shelling, hunger and frost. It is now difficult for us to imagine what it means to live in a house without running water and sewerage, without light and heat. How can an exhausted person go to the Neva for water, walk a huge distance to the factory, return home to the children after a shift at the machine, and also be on duty on the roofs and put out “lighters”, go out to sanitary clean the city, stand in bread lines, visit relatives in another area, to see death around you every day, to lose those closest to you, but not to lose human dignity and faith in victory,” emphasized Alexander Beglov.

He also noted that each family in the city has its own chronicle of the siege. President Vladimir Putin, whose parents survived these terrible years, also has it. The President takes great care of the memory of the great feat of unconquered Leningrad, and the city is doing everything possible to keep this memory alive. The younger generation must remember what our ancestors had to go through. Alexander Beglov emphasized that it is impossible to defeat our people, our country.
