Akhmat fighters will not be involved in the protection of the border of the region – Kommersant

The governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, said that there are no plans to involve the fighters of the Chechen special forces “West-Akhmat” in the protection of regions of the region bordering Ukraine. Formerly Chechen fighters started to the protection of the state border on the territory of the Belgorod region, where Ukrainian saboteurs had previously penetrated several times.

“We have not yet had any proposals to involve the Zapad-Akhmat battalion in protecting the border,” Mr. Bogomaz said during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (quoted from TASS). He clarified that now the state border is guarded by the Russian Ministry of Defense, the border department of the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the National Guard.

According to him, the situation in the border areas of the region is currently under control, no additional strengthening is required to protect the border in order to prevent possible attacks by saboteurs.

The day before, June 15, State Duma deputy from United Russia Adam Delimkhanov informedthat the soldiers of the Chechen special forces “Akhmat” began to work in the Belgorod region. According to him, the fighters of the unit are located in the border areas of the region and are ready, if necessary, to prevent attacks by Ukrainian saboteurs. The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, stated that Akhmat fighters were ready to perform the functions of protecting the state border in the Belgorod region “for as long as necessary.”
