The Everypixel service conducted a study among generative neural networks and came to the conclusion that in a year and a half, artificial intelligence created over 15 billion images. This is more than photographers have created in 149 years – from taking the first photo in 1826 to 1975. Every day, on average, more than 34 million images are created using AI.
According to Everypixel, the most images — 12.6 billion — were created using generative neural networks based on open source Stable Diffusion, over 1 billion were created by Adobe Friefly, 964 million by Midjourney, and DALL-E 2 — 916 million. Adobe Firefly was the fastest growing service, reaching 1 billion images within three months of its launch. Over 15 million people have used Midjourney – AI has the largest user base.
Everypixel cites social media data for comparison: Instagram has uploaded more than 50 billion images, Google has indexed over 136 billion images, and Facebook (together with Instagram belongs to Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned) users have uploaded more than 1.5 trillion images .
