Law enforcement agencies, following the results of a pre-investigation check, decided not to initiate a criminal case against journalist Yuri Dud (recognized as a foreign agent) for fakes about the Russian army, reported TASS. According to the agency’s interlocutor, the check was carried out from September 2023 after Mr. Dudya’s interview with the author of the web series Mr. Freeman Pavel Muntyan (recognized as a foreign agent).

“Based on the results of the pre-investigation check, a criminal case under Part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public dissemination, under the guise of reliable reports, of knowingly false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation), a decision was made not to prosecute Yuri Dud; no crime has been established,” law enforcement agencies told TASS.

Yuri Dud left Russia in April 2022, after the Ministry of Justice included him in the register of foreign agents. The journalist tried to challenge the legality of this decision and also filed a complaint about failure to notify him of being included in the register. The court rejected the claims. In November 2023 TASS wrotethat the Moscow prosecutor’s office has begun an investigation against Mr. Dud under the article on discrediting the Russian army (Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
