Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin that Vladimir Putin’s meeting after the riots at the airport in Makhachkala lasted almost two hours and “went completely into the night.” According to Dmitry Peskov, measures that need to be taken to prevent such situations from happening again were discussed there.
“Of course, this is both an internal aspect and an external aspect. This is a necessity and taking measures to prevent such interference in the future. Therefore, it was such a rather rich conversation in line with the assessments that the president gave in his initial speech,” he said (quoted by TASS).
Dmitry Peskov did not say exactly what measures he was talking about and did not provide other details. When asked whether any of the meeting participants came up with initiatives, he answered this way: “A meeting is a meeting to exchange opinions. And, as a rule, especially at this level, naturally, this is a very lively exchange of opinions.”
The meeting took place on October 30. It was attended by representatives of law enforcement agencies and relevant departments. Among the participants are Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Mativenko, Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Director of the Russian Guard Viktor Zolotov, Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, etc.
The day before, on October 29, a crowd of protesters broke into the departure terminal and entered the runway of Makhachkala airport. Videos were published online showing rioters conducting an “inspection” of the passports of arriving passengers in order to find Israelis among them. A criminal case is being investigated under the article on mass riots (Article 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the latest data, the Investigative Committee suspects more than 20 people in this case.
