Russian show business – old, long rotten, born during the crazy perestroika years, and all these years greedily feeding from every conceivable nursery, be it protection from crime in the 2000s or pumping in money from business at the time of attempts to form new political elites, no longer exists. The King of Pop… no, he’s not dead, but he’s sitting at the Dno station. And it doesn’t matter that his personal bottom is not in the Pskov region, like Emperor Nicholas II, but in Dubai. Where Philip Kirkorov recently shone in the lights of the ramp, all deliberately positive in a black camisole with a sleeve shining with rhinestones. He’s still at the Dno station. And the documents on his abdication have not only been prepared, but also signed. Those who cut the King of Pop from all New Year’s programs. And even his own illustrious autograph was not required.

It would seem – well, Philip didn’t flash before the eyes of Russians on drunken holiday nights, what’s wrong? It was as if someone was sitting without looking up from the screens – waiting, crying from dashed hopes, or at least just noticing it. Record new songs, conduct a concert tour of Russian cities and villages – and that won’t last long. But no. The disappearance of Kirkorov from the television life of Russians is not a death sentence for Philip personally, it is the collapse of today’s pop world. Show business of the old format, where Kirkorov, tightly clinging to the title of king of pop, was its main symbol. And without a king, there is no empire.

The old Russian show business, which died in the first days of 2024, was once imposed by the Russians by force and year after year is squeezing out its right to be just that – almost always corrupt, often past and, most importantly, with rare exceptions devoid of any spark of God, has always portrayed independence from the authorities. Although I have never been independent. Suffice it to remember how upset Alla Pugacheva was when, after receiving the Order of Merit for the Fatherland of the 2nd degree from President Yeltsin’s master’s shoulder, she subsequently received orders of a lower rank from Medvedev and Putin. And not at all the first degree, as I had hoped. As a result, to his great chagrin, he became a full holder of this order. Whether it is the presentation of state awards, an invitation to the treasured Kremlin offices, or friendship with high-ranking Russian officials – all this has always been an object of desire for almost any representative of show business. Especially from among the artists of the first and highest echelon. Recognition of creative merits through the powers that be, increased importance within the party, the opportunity to solve many of one’s own problems – a dream come true for some and a subject of endless envy for them. And losing this is much more painful than even those many millions (according to some estimates, fifty) that Kirkorov missed today because of Ivleeva’s “naked party.”

How could the king of pop, who has experienced an infinite number of intra-shop intrigues in his lifetime, a master of building relationships, a man who knows how to form his own retinue, and not lose himself personally in the retinue of business elites, miss like that, one can only guess. Apparently, the fact that for the first time he surpassed the mother of pop dragons, Alla Pugacheva, in intelligence, before whom he always looked like a kind of half-educated wizard, turned his head and took away his sense of new trends. The very ones whose symbol is the Shaman today. And isn’t that why Kirkorov so diligently turned away from him during the recording of the final composition of the Song of the Year. In vain, it turns out, I tried. No one saw his demarche, and indeed no one saw the king of pop in this program.

What will be next? And it will be spring. Spring of the new pop world. It doesn’t matter at all because of which Shere Khan Akela-Pugacheva missed, but her place as the head of the showbiz pack is free. And a holy place, as we know, is never empty. But Philip Kirkorov will no longer occupy him. The monarchy all over the world has outlived its usefulness, having turned into grotesque figures, interesting only to the paparazzi and the completely primitive layman, and then only when there are no more dynamic and significant events for the world. This means that the title of the King of Pop is too outdated and shabby to remain as attractive. Why, the flock is no longer there. It is rapidly disintegrating into loners hunting for success.

And the new pop world will be formed differently – one with power and state policy. Young, boasting of strength and energy. Will Philip Kirkorov jump into the last carriage that is still capable of taking him away from Dno station? If he doesn’t drag the show business that is familiar to him, so dear and close, with him, renounces it and joins new trends, then yes. He has a place to apply family values ​​that are in demand today – he has an old father and small children, and, most importantly, he still has his own history of his creative path, even if it is replete with not only bright ups, but also difficult downs. But Kirkorov needs to run very quickly today just to keep up with the current day.

And the bottom, by the way, is also dangerous because they can knock from below.
