Aeroflot launched a smart pilot training system

“The classic simulator training system consists of practicing certain maneuvers, procedures and failures of aircraft systems and does not take into account the real need for such training for a particular pilot. The new approach is focused on developing a training program for a specific pilot, based on the synthesis of information, for example, from flight data (incidents and accidents), audit observations, and training data,” explained Eduard Sovetkin.
According to RBC’s source at Aeroflot, the company conducted preliminary tests of pilots to implement the new methodology. Under the previous training system, airline flight crews practiced the same scenarios. The new approach will focus on the skills that the pilot is worse at. They will practice harder and more often.
It is noted that instructors will analyze the skills of employees in four areas. This observation is closely monitoring crew performance and external factors, keeping notes for discussion after training, classifying to understand the degree of deviation from the standard level, and ultimately determining competency.
As reported by the Federal Air Transport Agency, traditional pilot training develops skills without taking into account application in a real situation. The new training system will improve the level of flight safety. “This approach is focused on developing the pilot’s professional qualities – competencies, and not just on memorizing patterns and exercises,” commented Vladimir Izrailev, head of the flight operations department of the Federal Air Transport Agency.
