Adidas refused to use the number 44 on the German national team’s football uniform for Euro 2024. Previously, social media users noticed that due to the design, the image of this number on the T-shirt is similar to the SS – the symbol of the paramilitary formations of the NSDAP Schutzstaffel.
The German Football Association announced that no player of the German national team will wear number 44, since at the European Championship all players of the German national team wear numbers from 1 to 23. The company also prohibited adding the inscriptions Fuhrer or Hitler when customizing a T-shirt with the national team design online -Adidas store.
“We will block number 44 as quickly as possible. Adidas employs people from approximately 100 countries and is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion. As a company, we actively oppose xenophobia, anti-Semitism, violence and hatred in all forms,” he told the publication Bild Adidas representative Oliver Bruggen.
