About 80,000 residents of the Kherson region received Russian passports, Acting Governor of the region Vladimir Saldo said. According to him, by September 1, it is planned to issue another 70,000 documents.
“To date, about 80 thousand passports have been issued, the task is to issue more than 150 thousand passports by September 1. Applications and documents submitted for obtaining passports still exceed the technical capabilities of the processing centers,” Mr. Saldo told TASS.
Vladimir Saldo noted that in order to increase the effectiveness of centers where you can apply for a Russian passport, they increase the number of employees. According to him, the Ministry of Internal Affairs sends brigades from other Russian regions, since there are not enough local ones.
On May 25, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin simplified the right to obtain Russian citizenship for residents of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Since 2019, residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) have begun to use the simplified right to receive Russian citizenship. On September 30, Vladimir Putin included the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into Russia.
