Singer Kelis explains that she was not informed of the use of her hit in the song Energy. After a few days, Queen B finally decided to edit her track.
Six years that fans have been waiting for the return of their idol Beyoncé. But it didn’t take long for the pop star to find himself at the heart of controversy: in less than a week, the album Renaissance has already undergone two modifications. After having re-recorded the title Heated, following the use of an offensive term for people with disabilities, it’s the song’s turn Energy to get a new look. Since Wednesday August 3, a sample has disappeared from the song, as pointed out RollingStone.
The day after the release of the album, on July 30, Kelis had reacted on his Instagram account to the use of his tube Milkshakeproduced by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of The Neptunes, in 2003. Singer Kelis criticized Queen B for using her song without her consent and without even informing her. She also states that she was not mentioned in the credits ofEnergyunlike The Neptunes.
“I am blown away by the level of disrespect and utter ignorance from all three parties involved. I discovered this sample the same way as everyone else. Nothing is ever what it seems, some people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have fooled everyone.” Kelis was offended. Beyoncé eventually took the singer’s criticism into account and deleted the sample from Milkshakethe tube of its sister.
On some listening platforms, like AppleMusicthe sample of Milkshake disappeared from Beyoncé’s song. However, it is still possible to find the original version with Kelis’ track, on Spotify and Youtube.
