Abramovich, Timchenko and Fridman to challenge EU sanctions in court

Russian oligarchs Gennady Timchenko, Roman Abramovich and Mikhail Fridman want to challenge the sanctions in a Luxembourg court, the German newspaper Bild reports, specifying that the defendants are the European Union.
According to the publication, a total of 61 lawsuits were registered in court. Thus, the energy tycoon Gennady Timchenko is demanding compensation from the EU in the amount of 1 million euros for the fact that he was “mistakenly ranked among the inner circle of Russian President Vladimir Putin.” Because of this, Timchenko suffered “non-pecuniary damage,” according to the court documents.
The plaintiffs include ex-owner of Chelsea Abramovich and head of the Alfa Group financial group Fridman, who also “suffered from Western sanctions.”
Recall that the Swiss authorities have frozen 7.5 billion Swiss francs of Russian assets. Another 5 billion euros of Russian oligarchs are frozen in German banks.
