Abramchenko expects food deflation to continue in summer and September

Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko believes that food deflation in Russia will last throughout the summer, and will also continue in September. According to the results of May, products in the Russian Federation fell in annual terms by 0.91%, Rosstat reported.
“We monitor the situation with food prices on a weekly basis, we have learned from the experience of the pandemic. Our forecasts are very good, I hope that food will not add any unpleasant points to inflation,” said Ms. Abramchenko in an interview with RIA Novosti at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Last month, annual inflation in Russia accelerated up to 2.51%. Prices decreased by 37.4% for cucumbers, by 26.1% for tomatoes, while white cabbage went up by 86.6%, and carrots by 21.4%. The scale of food deflation in the summer can play a key role in the Central Bank’s decision to raise the key rate at the end of July.
