Food deflation may continue in Russia in the coming months, thinks Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko.
“We have very good forecasts, I hope that food will not add any unpleasant points to inflation,” the Deputy Prime Minister said in an interview with RIA Novosti at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
May 31 Ministry of Economic Development of Russia appreciated falling prices in the food segment. According to the department’s estimates, prices decreased by 0.03% due to cheaper fruits and vegetables (-1.67%). At the same time, prices for other food products continued to rise, including sugar and meat.
At the same time, annual inflation accelerated and amounted to 2.36% in the period from May 16 to May 22 – in the previous two weeks it was 2.34% and 2.32%.
At the same time, a week earlier, on May 23, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at the Russian-Chinese business forum in Shanghai that inflation had slowed to 2.3% by early May. Then he called it the minimum figure among all European countries.
