They represented eight regions of Russia. In addition to Chuvashia, these are chess players from the Bryansk, Vladimir, Kurgan, Nizhny Novgorod regions, the Republics of Tatarstan and Mari El, as well as the city of St. Petersburg.

The competitions were traditionally held on the basis of the Spartak sports school; participants competed for the title of the best in rapid chess and blitz.

Denis Kirillov (Chuvashia) won the blitz tournament; the top three also included Danila Belousov (Bryansk region) and Yuri Ievlev (Chuvashia). Among women, the top three winners look like this: 1. Eva Glushkova (Mari El), 2. Valentina Davydova, 3. Elena Artemyeva (both from Chuvashia).

Danila Belousov won the rapid chess tournament, Yuri Ievlev was second, and Daniil Mochalov (Tatarstan) was third. The women’s tournament was won by Maria Sidorova, second place was taken by Olga Andreeva, third place by Valentina Davydova (all from Chuvashia).

The best among the veterans was Pavel Igumnov. Among the juniors, Ivan Kochnev and Valeria Ivashkina distinguished themselves. All of them represent Chuvashia.

The organizers noted that among the tournament participants was an 89-year-old military pensioner, colonel of the Soviet Army, combat veteran Egorov Herold – “our fellow countryman, now living in St. Petersburg.” Gerold Tarasovich played with Vladimir Sergievsky in the Championship of the Chuvash Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in 1952, where he took 4th place.

Sergievsky was born in Cheboksary, he became the first chess player from Chuvashia to win (in 1966) the RSFSR championship. He is an international master of sports. He contributed to the development of chess in Chuvashia by directing a children’s chess school in the capital of the republic.

Vladimir Dmitrievich passed away on January 2, 1996.

Member of the supervisory board of the Chess Federation of Chuvashia Igor Burshtein is one of Sergievsky’s students. On his initiative, the Sergievsky Memorial has been held since 2016 and is held regularly.
