Sergei Kovbel from Noyabrsk won gold at the All-Russian weightlifting competition. This was reported on September 25 by the Department of Physical Education and Sports of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
“The weightlifter competed in the weight category up to 109 kilograms, with a result of 150 kg in the snatch and 200 kg in the clean and jerk, he became the absolute winner. The athlete is training at the Altis Olympic reserve sports school under the leadership of Evgeniy Kovbel,” the message says.
The competition took place from September 18 to 25 in the village of Sukko, Krasnodar Territory. 350 athletes from 28 regions of Russia took part.
The head of Noyabrsk, Alexey Romanov, congratulated Sergei Kovbel on his victory on his social networks.
“Sergey is involved in the “Highest Sports Excellence” group, a member of the Russian national team, vice-president of the Weightlifting Federation of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, multiple winner and prize-winner of all-Russian and regional competitions. Athletes like Sergei are the pride of the city and district. Our task is to provide decent training conditions for the November guys,” said Romanov.
He noted that this year new equipment appeared in the Atlant gym of the Altis sports school. The powerlifting and weightlifting departments, which employ about 200 people, now have certified plates, bench press racks and barbells – more than 200 pieces of sports equipment in total.
