A wave of teenage suicides swept across the country due to exams

Psychologist urges to pass the exam with healthy indifference

Trial exams have just started in schools, and we already know about several attempts by high school students to commit suicide. A Muscovite girl was saved, but a teenager in Novosibirsk died – just like a 11th grade student in Moscow, who passed away, citing the difficulty of preparing for the Unified State Examination as the reason.

The act of 6th grader Katya (name changed) from school No. 368 in Elk Island shocked everyone. A girl from a large family is a very diligent student. But she was so afraid of the translation exam in English – it is passed in writing and orally, and Katya has problems with speaking to everyone that she attempted suicide right at school.

Fortunately, the teacher called an ambulance in time. The girl was saved. Director of school 368 Maria Danacheva later assured: “We support all students, help to cope with the excitement.”

A more serious exam – the OGE, was coming to a 16-year-old resident of Novosibirsk. Passers-by found his body early in the morning in the courtyard of the house on Zemnukhova. The teenager studied at school number 203. An investigation is underway into the death of the teenager. Eyewitnesses claim that the mother of the deceased, when they found the body, shouted: “This is all because of the exams!”

The high-profile suicide of a teenager also happened in Moscow, in the Kuzminki district. The deceased, who was also found in the courtyard of a high-rise building, left a suicide note. There he wrote that “he studied poorly all the time” and therefore would not be able to prepare for the exam. But he also accused his parents: “You knew how bad it was for me, you knew how much I needed your support – I asked for it from you, and you put it all out like a trifle.” Later, a version was voiced that the unrequited love for a classmate could also be the cause of the guy’s death. Investigation underway

Resonant cases of suicide have been hotly discussed on the Web. “Why these preparations, rehearsals, they only cripple the psyche of children,” the parents are indignant. “My daughter fainted from fright at the OGE rehearsal, her classmate, as he failed the OGE rehearsal, stopped sleeping altogether.” There are also those who advise to better monitor children, to train the nervous system. “Yes, the exams were always not sugar,” recalls some engineer. – When we graduated from college, the girl in the group went crazy. On defense, she wrapped herself in a curtain, waves it and tells the commission: “I will fly now” …

“Suicide because of exams, alas, is an eternal topic,” says psychologist Maryana Razumovskaya. – I remember, 30 years ago there was a resonant case when a boy did not pass the exam at Moscow State University and committed suicide. There, the family really wanted him to go to Moscow State University … Therefore, from parents here, in addition to paying for tutors and ambitions, a lot of tact and attention is required. It’s really really hard – 16-18 years old, the hormonal background is going through the roof, and also such hyper-responsibility. The complexity of the exam itself, security measures like cameras and frames through which the mouse cannot sneak. In schools, the situation is also greatly aggravated, in fact, fewer fears would be voiced. The upcoming hassle with admission and guessing your place on the list. This is already too much even for those whose psyche is relatively stable.

Therefore, if houses are still under pressure, they are intimidating, this may be the last straw. Of course, I do not urge you to let the USE take its course and score on exams. But a bit of healthy indifference doesn’t hurt. The parent who has already done so much to prepare the child for this exam owes something else. As far as possible, provide psychological comfort during such a period, and not increase stress. Do not pull, do not scold, do not push. Instill confidence in your abilities. In general, on the very last day, it’s better not to study, not to teach, but to sleep well and relax, it’s better for the brain.

And you definitely don’t have to put everything at stake – failure in the exam is not a sentence. Instead, teach your teenager that bad test scores are not the end of the world. And it happens that the money for tutors is “exposed” to the child, they remember how much effort and how many years have gone to waste.
