A scandal broke out at a Samara school: there have been no Russian or literature lessons since September

In the public pages, citing parents of seventh-graders, they reported that since October they have not been conducting classes in Russian language and literature. Allegedly, several teachers quit, there is no one to replace them, no one comes.

And this could be considered a private problem of one single school, if the same catastrophic state of affairs did not exist in the rest of the country. According to data released this year, there is a huge shortage of subject teachers in Russia; some secondary educational institutions lack up to a third of the teaching staff. And those who work work almost in the position of slaves.

“The most inadequate parents are those who want the impossible,” a biology teacher at one of the regional city schools agreed to voice the problem. “They think that for a salary of 35 thousand plus class management, I should dance round dances around the students and lay my life on it. And I also have children who need to be fed.”

The teacher admits that the workload is enormous, and in order to make ends meet, she has to tutor and prepare students for the Unified State Exam. “There are lessons at school, you come home, and there’s a second shift,” the specialist bitterly states.

“We are the same living people. And if a small salary can somehow be compensated for by tutoring, then working for an idea with an absolute disregard for the profession is impossible,” my interlocutor concluded.

“And our parents complain, are indignant, write to me, because there are no history textbooks. What can I do? There are no textbooks, since the program has changed, but new ones have not arrived. General and Russian history do not coincide according to the books. In social studies, the seventh grade program is taught in the sixth grade, and vice versa,” says a history teacher with 10 years of experience.

These are details that complement the overall picture. And, of course, they demand a lot from teachers: in addition to lessons, there is also bureaucratic writing, annual refresher courses, participation in various competitions and events – all at their own expense and in their personal time.

A sore subject: teachers are needed everywhere, the state cannot pay, the budget is not flexible, but what kind of raising of authority can we talk about then?

“Children from the 1st grade have developed financial literacy, and everything comes down to rationality: why study if they will take a scarf anyway, but now in general it is being promoted from above that education is not needed, other goals are a priority. So it turns out that a teacher with his diploma is not respected and they show it openly,” said another teacher.

By the way, she recalled sensational cases when one young teacher was fired for a photo on social networks in a sports swimsuit (the girl was swimming), and another was infamous throughout the country for buying underwear in a store and was accidentally seen by students wearing it made an “indelible impression.”

The normal state of affairs is only in Moscow, here payments reach 70-100 thousand rubles. Average salary by region: 30-35 thousand. In villages – 20-25. Therefore, the situation in Samara is not exceptional, but absolutely typical; it’s just that the scandal suddenly spread beyond the boundaries of a particular school.

“Two teachers quit. There are two more left. The load is colossal. Maybe at least substitute elementary school teachers?” an anonymous post from a Samara mother spread on social networks.

They answer her that many are thinking about transferring their children to other schools – before it’s too late, how long will it take to find teachers?

After the uproar, the investigation, as reported by the media, is being carried out by the regional prosecutor’s office.

By the way, one more thing. There are not enough teachers of mathematics, physics, foreign disciplines – the latter, they say, is not the most important thing at all, maybe they will remove English altogether. But you can’t find native Russian teachers!

Just yesterday, deputies once again pompously declared the importance of the Russian language throughout the world. Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy proudly spoke about the fact that foreigners are literally rushing to Russian embassies, asking and begging for their children to study Russian at embassy schools.

It is wonderful that, from Tolstoy’s point of view, “the great and mighty” is in demand in other countries. Undoubtedly. It would be nice to come down to earth and find Russian teachers in regular Samara school No. 22.
