Omsk surgeons removed a 15-centimeter worm from a woman’s body
Surgeons from Omsk removed a 15-cm worm from the patient’s body, which settled under her skin after a mosquito bite, the press service of the West Siberian Medical Center of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of the Russian Federation reports.
The woman went to the doctors with complaints of pulling pains and induration in her side. At first, the Russian woman did not pay attention to this, but then the seal increased, turned red and began to cause discomfort.
At first, surgeons suggested that it was atheroma – a wen. However, during the operation, doctors saw a parasite almost 15 centimeters long.
The woman was diagnosed with dirofilariasis, a disease caused by the presence of parasitic worms in the body. Human infection occurs through the bite of a mosquito infected with Dirofilaria larvae.
When bitten, a larva is deposited, which after a while grows into an adult. The only way to get rid of the parasite is through surgery.
