Residents of the new building in Mariupol did not prepare in advance for the arrival of Vladimir Putin. Vladimir Trotsenko, who showed Putin his apartment, admitted to reporters that before the president’s visit, movement had begun in the courtyard of the high-rise building.

“There were five people in white helmets and two in civilian clothes walking in the yard. I thought they were going to rebuild something in the yard,” the man told the camera. “And then I see something is wrong. More serious people gathered there.

The guys said: Putin. Well, I didn’t believe it. And then I see him coming towards us. The President asked what the questions would be. One guy replied that they had not been paid salaries for three months. The neighbor said that it was hard to get a Russian passport because there were queues.”

A resident of the new building, Irina, arrived late for a meeting with Putin.

“If we had known in advance, more people would have gathered. Events developed so quickly, I definitely would not have had time to run around all the residents. Since the house is a new building, we have not all got to know each other yet, there are no phone numbers for the tenants. Neighbors who didn’t make it to the meeting later regretted it. And those who were lucky enough to see Putin still do not believe that they personally communicated with the president. Now the neighbors are asking each other for details.

— Are there many such new buildings in Mariupol?

– There are already a lot of new houses, construction continues, which pleases. Houses that can be restored are being repaired. Residents of the city would like everything to be restored as soon as possible, but the scope of work is large, we must be patient. No other way yet. Builders already work in three shifts, it’s hard.

In our house, apartments were allocated to people who really had nowhere to live. Some houses were completely destroyed, while others burned down. The commission made a decision to relocate to a new building on the basis of acts on the demolition of their houses.

– The apartment that Putin visited looks like they just moved in.

– Yes, we all recently received apartments, they are chic and clean. Many things have not yet been sorted out.

“It’s an inexplicable feeling. I’m sorry, but you don’t understand. You have not seen the nightmare that happened here in 2014 and 2022. It cannot be described in words, only experienced.

– No. We understood that the situation was not the right one for that.

– In the city chat, people asked why the head of state did not visit other houses where, for example, there is no gas.

– Wherever they could, gas was led there. This is a serious thing. Where there is no gas, there is electricity, you can cook and swim. There are still areas where the commission did not reach to draw up a resettlement act. But this is temporary.

– Salaries are different. Those who work on construction sites are well paid. According to rumors, about 80 thousand rubles. But the prices in Mariupol are a bit high. Eggs cost an average of 70–100 rubles, bread up to 40 rubles, but meat “bites”, up to 500 rubles.
