A resident of Beloretsk spoke about her attempt to complain about the state of the hospital: doctors asked to remove the video

“Employees are suffering, but they are afraid to speak”

“The hospital is like in a horror movie, both outside and inside,” is how a resident of Bashkiria described the state of the infectious diseases hospital in Beloretsk. The patient took a video and posted it on social media. She collected hundreds of comments in her support.

But the hospital staff, who also suffer from the conditions, remained silent and asked to delete the post.

The heroine of the video spoke about the situation.

A resident of Beloretsk, Alsu Zamanova, posted on her page a video from the only infectious diseases hospital in the city of Beloretsk, where patients from neighboring areas are hospitalized. She turned to the staff: “Manager, please don’t be offended by this video, but I told the truth, you have nothing to do with it. I feel sorry for the doctors and nurses.”

The video shows footage from the ward. There are mattresses on the window sills, the windows are covered with ice. “I don’t even put food in the refrigerator, it’s on the window,” the author comments.

The walls of the hospital are cracked: “If an earthquake happens, the hospital will probably collapse first.”

The picture shows that the floor is in need of repair, the ceiling is peeling, and the walls are shabby. The furniture in the wards leaves much to be desired: the bedside tables are falling apart, instead of modern beds there are metal Soviet beds with armored mesh and old mattresses. “To hell with these bedside tables and beds, the main thing is that the building itself is brought into decent condition,” says the author of the post.

Local officials usually react to such videos. And then there is silence. We asked Alsou about the reaction to her appeal.

– After I posted the video, nothing changed. As I understand it, they didn’t even check it. The condition of the hospital is terrible, both outside and inside, at some point it may collapse, says Zamanova.

Unlike the hospital patients who supported Alsou on social networks, the hospital staff remained silent.

– Doctors suffer, but they themselves never complain, they are probably afraid. Now you can’t say anything, they’ll fire you. So the doctors didn’t hold me, and I didn’t expect it. Only a few nurses agreed with me that it was high time to renovate the building, the hospital – like in a horror film. And the doctors asked to remove the video. But I didn’t delete it. I don’t work anywhere, no one will fire me…

When asked whether repairs had been carried out before, the interlocutor replied: “A couple of years ago I asked to have a leaky roof repaired. It was covered, and the rest was forgotten. Not a renovation, but a show. Cracks have spread all over the building, they are not being covered up, as it is. Now in the wards there are mattresses on the window sills, because the wind is blowing terribly from the windows. Patients wear warm clothes. I was lying in woolen socks, the child also did not undress. At night I woke up and my nose was cold and red. My son and I went to the hospital with the flu, and I came out with a sore throat. The nurses themselves came into the room to put in an IV, and their hands were ice cold.”

Alsou promises that if the matter does not move forward, then the rest of the residents will join her request to repair the building: “It’s not the case to be treated in such conditions.”
