The CBS television channel, citing information from the American company Xcel Energy, reported that a radioactive water leak had occurred at the Monticello nuclear power plant, located in Minnesota. More than 400,000 gallons (1.5 million liters) leaked out. According to reports, of the harmful it contained only tritium – a radioactive isotope of hydrogen.
However, the residents of Minnesota and the guests of the state have nothing to fear now – the leak occurred in November last year, but they decided to report it only now, when bright informational occasions were needed.
Meanwhile, judging by the message, this is not one of the stories about silent pest companies. Information about the accident was first pressed, and then suddenly it was not businessmen who published it, but government officials, explains CBS, noting that the bureaucrats allegedly wanted to check everything better first before notifying the population.
“If at any point there were concerns about public safety, we would of course immediately provide more information,” Xcel Energy assures and adds that at the moment it was possible to collect about 25% of the spilled tritium, the cleanup process continues. At the same time, other TV channels specify that the leak occurred from the pipeline on the territory of the station, radioactive water went into the ground horizons, but could not pollute drinking sources.
