The tourist route of the Pribaikalsky National Park “Circum-Baikal Railway” (CBRR) has been closed for visiting since March 13. As noted in Telegram channel Federal State Budgetary Institution “Reserved Baikal Region”, the reason was the abnormally early awakening of a bear near the route, noted as early as March 8.
“According to the information received from the state inspectors of the Baikal Territorial Forestry, the bear, which woke up very early, did not go deep into the taiga, as experts assumed, but continues to stay close to places popular with tourists. Traces of the beast, in particular, were recorded not far from the 80th kilometer of the Circum-Baikal Railway,” the report says.
The route is closed for a period “until the situation normalizes and the safety of people is ensured.” The national park notes that in the Baikal region, bears wake up from hibernation in late March or early April.
