A pensioner from Shakhty showed excellent results at the Rostov region kettlebell lifting championship. The competition took place on March 3 at the new Vasily Alekseev Weightlifting Center. This news was reported by the KVU portal.
The competition was held in two categories: among men and among women. The winner in the men’s category was an experienced athlete from Shakhty, Vasily Melnikov. In the 65-69 age group, he showed impressive results, lifting a 16 kg weight 217 times.
Vasily Melnikov, who is 66 years old, remains in excellent shape. He said that he has been involved in sports since childhood and it has always been his passion. At different periods of his life, health problems arose, but sports always helped him overcome difficulties. At the age of nine, he began swimming and then switched to wrestling. Due to Vasily’s injury, doctors thought that he would remain disabled for life. His hand began to fail. However, Vasily did not give up. He began to develop his arm, lifting the weights. Each time the weight grew more and more. Later it became not only a favorite pastime, but also a sport.
Thanks to his strong character and willpower, Vasily achieved high results. Now he hopes to pass on his experience and knowledge to the younger generation.
Vasily also shared his personal experiences that he outlived many of his peers. He promotes a healthy and active lifestyle, as many of his friends died earlier due to addictions. At 66 years old, he was able to recover from Covid with the help of training, a healthy lifestyle and healthy nutrition.
