An unusual operation was carried out in Moscow

Moscow doctors performed surgery on a young woman to remove tongue cancer, and then restored the organ from a flap of skin on her arm. Surgeons shaped the missing part of the tongue manually under a microscope at high magnification.

As MK learned, some time ago 27-year-old Anastasia turned to the National Medical Research Center of Radiology. Shortly before this, a young woman’s tooth broke off and began to rub her tongue. The tooth was removed, but the wound did not heal and continued to cause pain. Neither ointments nor rinses helped. Anastasia visited many dentists, and only one of them advised her to see an oncologist. The specialist made a terrible diagnosis – a malignant tumor of the tongue.

The operation was performed by four surgeons at once. Two doctors removed half of the tongue and removed lymph nodes in the neck. This process is called lymph node dissection and is carried out if the lymph nodes are affected or, as in the case of Anastasia, the degree of tumor invasion is more than 4 mm. With this indicator, micrometastases are often detected that are not visible on studies. At the same time, two more surgeons took a flap of skin from the patient’s left arm. Doctors then began preparing the vessels on the neck and flap. In order for the flap to be supplied with blood, its vessels are sutured to the vessels of the neck. Then a new neo-language was formed from it.

According to experts, previously patients with tongue cancer simply had the affected part removed. There was no talk of restoring the organ. Anastasia has fully recovered and can talk calmly.
