A one-minute method for the synthesis of photosensitive materials has been discovered in Russia

Researchers from MIET and Moscow State University have proposed a new effective method for producing molybdenum and tungsten disulfides, which are important materials for creating a new generation of photographic equipment. The results of the study were published in the journal Physica Status Solidi (B).
Recent years have seen growing interest in a new class of semiconductor materials known as transition metal dichalcogenides. Scientists note that thin layers of these compounds have unique light absorption properties.
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and tungsten disulfide (WS2) are the best known representatives of this class of materials. Films made from these substances are 10,000 times thicker than a human hair and can absorb up to 25% of the light incident on them. Scientists consider this a record value, which allows improving camera matrices, solar panels and other light-sensitive equipment.
Currently, molybdenum and tungsten disulfides are produced in quartz furnaces, but the process is slow, difficult to control and has limitations in scalability for mass production, the scientists explained.
Scientists from the National Research University “MIET” and Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov developed a new installation for the production of semiconductor transition metal disulfides with various structures.
