A new type of fraud has blossomed in Russia: they cheat with visas and passports

Runet was flooded with “Ostap Benders”, who are briskly selling visas, residence permits and even passports of any country in the world, including those completely closed to Russians, cashing in on especially confused and frightened compatriots. Law enforcers call for vigilance: residence permit swindlers seem quite harmless in appearance. But in fact, they are able to bring not only to the scrip, but also to prison.
Cybersecurity experts, as well as representatives of the border services, have repeatedly warned fellow citizens who believe that “consular genies” live on the dark side of the Runet (in the Darknet), capable of conjuring a Schengen of a country that does not give it to Russians in a couple of days in principle, even without the personal presence of the applicant. Or even immediately a passport of a foreign citizen, including those states where even billionaires from other countries have to naturalize for years.
– The stamp will be drawn – in the truest sense, – says a Russian visa broker with 20 years of experience. – This will be revealed immediately, as soon as the border control officer checks the visa on the Schengen base. One such “passenger” said: they say, they will find out, which means I will go to prison, but to a European one. Alas, nothing will come of it: in the EU, the bearer of a fake will be fined several thousand euros, put a life “stop” on entry into the Schengen zone and deported home. And at home, forgery of documents is a criminal offense.
According to experts, the main problem of today is the inexperienced, and besides, the anxious consumer of such services, who does not even understand that some things are impossible by definition.
“Before the geopolitical upheavals, experienced and even hardened people turned to visa “declarers,” Russian consular employees explain. – For example, refuseniks, who once seriously violated the EU visa regime and got “deported”. Or having problems with the law in one of the Schengen countries. They themselves searched and found the necessary services on the Darknet. Intermediaries with the necessary connections could really help the refuseniks, albeit for very serious money. But now the situation is fundamentally different: all of Russia has fallen into the “refuseniks”. And no one is able to fix this for $800, as much as network crooks are asking for, or for any other amount. True, today it is not the former experienced contingent that pecks at such promises, but newcomers to the black market of consular services, frightened by restrictions.
Law enforcement officers are in solidarity: the victims of visa and passport fraud have become more massive and naive, especially after September 21. The majority is ready to believe in the most incredible fairy tales, which greatly simplifies the task for those who have already earned the nickname “Residence permit crook” among the network people. Their feast during the plague is also facilitated by the fact that the victim, who planned to escape over the hill, will not run to complain to the authorities for sure.
“Sometimes you are amazed at what moon our youth fell from! – on condition of anonymity, a Muscovite shares, who had a chance to reason with his own nephew in a similar situation. – Seems like a smart guy, 25 years old, higher technical education. But he pecked at the window that popped up in his computer, promising British citizenship in 10 days and 1000 pounds without the personal presence of the future citizen! Already going to transfer money to a virtual wallet is unknown to anyone. Well, my father found out… I ask him: is it okay that even the Egyptian Al-Fayed family, who owns London Harrods and poured many billions into Britain, has not been awarded her citizenship? And you are like that – and you’re done ?! The tribal only blinks his eyes, he has nothing to say.
In the same way, many “buy” on the advertisement of “consular genies” that pops up in RuNet, even if they themselves were not looking for them. And they peck at the entire repertoire of tricks “citizenship of the United States and Great Britain in a week.”
– Those who are well versed in the consular black market will never get into this, – lawyer Yulia Petrova notes. – It turns out that the punishment for forging documents (up to 3 years in prison) is given to the naive and narrow-minded. And the swindlers themselves, as well as the hardened clientele of the shadow “deciders”, calmly continue their criminal activities.
According to experts, in addition to ignorance by the victims of the “materiel”, the attackers also benefit from the unprecedented relevance of the topic.
– Previously, all sorts of visa and entry innovations were discussed only in a narrow circle of interested persons, but now it is constantly on everyone’s lips, – reminds the domestic visa intermediary. – And the inexperienced person does not seem strange or illegal another proposal on this topic. Just remember the numbers: from 6 thousand euros it costs only the help of an intermediary in collecting a package of documents for granting a residence permit in the EU countries, what kind of passport of a citizen is there for a thousand!
“A positive decision to issue a visa without an interview in the current conditions requires the assistance of at least the vice-consul, who is unlikely to participate in this scam for a share of 30 thousand rubles,” says Ashot Oganesyan, founder of the Darknet data leak intelligence and monitoring service.
Meanwhile, issuing real residence permits to Russians is only getting more complicated. Since October 8, Turkey has closed another 1,162 districts for a residence permit for foreigners to those previously closed: today, only in Antalya alone, 10 districts are “on the stop” for foreigners to purchase in order to obtain a TAPU – a residence permit in Turkey on the basis of real estate ownership. Only foreigners who bought local housing before July 1, 2022, if its estimated cost is above $75,000, can now get it. It’s a shame, given that, according to realtors, Russians continue to buy Turkish property at a rate of 34 apartments per day.
