A new method of fraud through Telegram is revealed

Fraudsters have invented a new way to deceive Russians using the Telegram messenger, RIA Novosti reports. The news agency cites the words of Alexandra Pozharskaya, an expert of the People’s Front project “For the Rights of Borrowers” and the Moshelovka platform.
They reportedly use bots, which in turn replace the numbers of various government agencies and services. For example, in one of the cases, the changed number was displayed as belonging to the FSB of Russia in the Arkhangelsk region.
Pozharskaya said that by renting numbers and using bots, attackers are able to replace numbers with any they need. At the same time, it is difficult for operators to verify such attempts, since the actual telephone connection does not occur. Using this method, fraudsters can pose as security officials.
The expert also noted that earlier scammers registered accounts in messengers using virtual number rental services and installed symbols of authorities, security services, banks or photographs of people whose accounts they wanted to fake on the avatar. In her opinion, such tricks of scammers form new threats, since the call looks plausible, and the phone numbers substituted by the attackers are on the official websites of organizations.
