A new climbing wall has opened in Salekhard. The project “Center for the Development of Rock Climbing and Mountaineering” received a grant from the governor of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the autonomous non-profit organization “Grants of Yamal” reported on November 27.
“For many years, school No. 2 has strived to develop this interesting and atypical sport for the Arctic. A small climbing wall in the gym became a center of attraction for children and adults who wanted to conquer peaks. The project included expanding the existing climbing wall, preparing schoolchildren to participate in outdoor climbing and mountaineering competitions, and summer camps for children on the slopes of the Polar Urals,” the statement says.
The authors and implementers of the project are the regional Federation of Snowboarding and Extreme Sports “Extreme Progress” and the Mountaineering Federation of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
The amount of the won grant was 4.3 million rubles.
