The villain admitted to the crime, but never returned the smartphone
Unexpected resourcefulness helped uncover the theft of items from a hearing-impaired train passenger, whose daughter called the stolen phone via video link and took a photo of the villain’s face.
As MK learned, an elderly man fell asleep on the train on the way from Naro-Fominsk to Moscow. When he woke up, he did not find his backpack. Inside were a tablet, phone, hearing aid, as well as a passport and money.
The upset man told his family about the loss, and his daughter decided to call her father’s mobile phone via video call. Oddly enough, the phone was picked up; moreover, the stranger admitted to the theft and promised to return the things, but never showed up for the scheduled meeting.
The Muscovite filed a complaint with the duty department of the line department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs at the Moscow-Kyiv station. She showed the law enforcement officers the face of the villain. As it turned out, during the conversation she managed to take a screenshot. Transport police quickly identified the thief and detained him: he turned out to be a 32-year-old man who often spends time at the Kievsky station. The thief explained that he wanted to drink, so he could not pass by the things of the sleeping pensioner. Some time after the woman’s call, he sold the mobile phone cheaply and returned the rest of the things to the owner.
As Alexandra Maklakova, press secretary of the line department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs at the Moscow-Kyiv station, told MK, a criminal case has been opened, and the man has been given a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave.
