A Moscow schoolboy won a silver medal at the Olympiad in Informatics

Russian schoolchildren received three gold and one silver medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics. The silver medal was awarded to Muscovite Fyodor Romashov (SSC named after A.N. Kolmogorov, Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov).

The 34th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2022) has ended in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Teams from 90 countries of the world took part in it.

Russian schoolchildren completed the tasks of the Olympiad remotely on the campus of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.

Gold medals were awarded to Alexander Babin (School No. 149 in Krasnoyarsk), Danil Klishch (Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 31 in Chelyabinsk), Vsevolod Nagibin (Educational Center – Gymnasium No. 6 “Gornostai” in Novosibirsk).

Prize awards were distributed at the Olympiad as follows: schoolchildren from Japan and China received four gold medals. Participants from the United States repeated the results of Russian high school students: they also have three gold and one silver medals.

“The Russian team in informatics showed excellent results. Medals were awarded to all our children, which testifies to the high level of knowledge of schoolchildren. And of course, their achievements are the result of many years of work and an indicator of the development of the entire Russian education system. We are doing a lot now to reveal the talent of each child. Teachers, educators, mentors and coaches work on this. For schoolchildren, many different olympiads and competitions are held, where they can show their abilities. Congratulations to the guys, our winners, and I want to wish them further success!” – Russian Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov commented on the results of the Russian team in informatics.

The process of preparing the team takes more than a year, it began in November 2021. During the training camp, 4 participants of the Olympiad were selected from more than 80 applicants.

The head of the Russian team is Andrey Stankevich, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Information Technology and Programming at the National Research University ITMO. Deputy head of the Russian national team – Alexey Maleev, director of the IT education development center of the Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution of Higher Education “Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (National Research University).

The International Olympiad in Informatics has been held annually since 1989. The founder of the Olympiad in 1988 was UNESCO. The first Olympiad was held in the city of Pravets (Republic of Bulgaria), the next – in Minsk. In Russia, the Olympiad was held in 2016 in Kazan.

In 2021, teams from 80 countries of the world took part in the Olympiad. As a result of the competition, Russian schoolchildren won three gold and one silver medals.
