A monument to the coach of the Burevestnik team Alexander Popov appeared in the city of Sevsk. Local residents honored the countryman well with a rally organized in his honor. The pedestal was installed on the grave of the eminent athlete, the regional department of physical culture and sports reported.
The solemn event brought together community members, football players of the local team and sports veterans. On this day, there were many warm memories of Alexander Popov. He began to play for the Sevsk team from his youth. As he grew older, he headed Burevestnik and was a player-coach. In 1968 and 1969 the team became the leader of the regional championship.
Alexander Popov passed away in 2009. However, the monument was erected only now thanks to its pupils and caring residents. Tatyana, the coach’s daughter, the chairman of the district public council Alexander Masyakin and the captain of the Burevestnik team Igor Dragunov opened the memorial. And the rally ended with a game between the players of Sevsk and Suzemka.
