A man disappeared during a flood in Sochi: “We want to find an uncle to bury with dignity”

“The water pressure was very strong. It’s just a matter of seconds.”

The relatives of 68-year-old Vyacheslav Seferyan, who disappeared due to flooding in Adler, are asking everyone who knows something about him to respond. The man could have been carried away to the mountain river Mzymta – the car was found, but there were no traces of the owner.

We talked with the nephew of the missing Alexei.

– On Sunday at 21:00, my uncle made the last call to his colleagues at work, that everything was in order, they were supposed to meet him. And almost immediately after that, the phone became unavailable.

So he was at work?

– Yes, he worked at MUE Vodokanal Sochi. He devoted about thirty years to this organization, he is devoted to his water utility. And although he was already aged, he still did not want to leave – he was vigorous, strong, he thought well.

– This is the place where he disappeared, how dangerous is it? Is there a chance to be saved?

– It’s a road. All the water goes into the storm drain, but the storm drain does not cope – there, sometimes water reaches up to three meters in the rain. After the Olympics in 2015, there was a flood and the cars then also drowned, now in bad weather everyone tries to drive carefully and honk to each other. Previously, the traffic light at least worked, now there is no traffic light either. Therefore, when floods occurred, the uncle left for the shift in advance before the downpour in order to quickly slip through the danger zone. This time, apparently, he did not have time … After the flood, on the scallop on the way to the goods yard, under the bridge, his car stood, drowned, without ignition keys. He himself was nowhere to be found. He was wearing a gray-blue uniform jacket and black trousers. Is there a chance to be saved? I don’t know, after all, age, health … When the car stopped, he wanted to turn on the reverse gear, but the car probably began to slip … We later found the car. She was sunk in her seat. We assume that when he got out, he was carried away by the current. The water pressure was very strong. This is a matter of seconds.

– Maybe he still managed to swim out?

– Hardly. He has had hand problems since childhood. He burned her on the stove as a boy, and therefore she was always clenched into his fist with him. You will see – you will not be mistaken. But of course we hope for the best.

– What do the police say?

– Made an orientation. So far, we have been looking all day on our own: friends, relatives, from the river bank to the sea, they looked through. I don’t remember such an element since 2015. It’s dark, there’s a thunderstorm… So far I haven’t heard that any of the people have gone missing, although Khosta was flooded, the Sirius children’s center. We are now addressing everywhere, writing, giving information to groups, maybe someone has seen something and knows – I would very much like to find an uncle and bury him with dignity. He deserves it.
