A helicopter of the Ministry of Emergency Situations took off in search of tourists missing in Buryatia

The press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation reported that the Mi-8 helicopter of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations went to the Kabansky district of Buryatia to search for five missing tourists who were lost while rafting down the Snezhnaya River.
According to the press service of the regional head office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, on the evening of July 6, the operational duty officer received a message that four catamarans with tourists had capsized near the village of Vydrino, Kabansky district. Three people were rescued, but rescuers continue to search for five.
“A group of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, which has set out from Teplyye Lakes to survey the Snezhnaya River, will assist the third tourist, who has got out to the winter quarters and is in touch. Currently, the Mi-8 helicopter of the Russian Emergencies Ministry with rescuers of the Baikal search and rescue team on board has taken off from the city of Irkutsk to the Kabansky district,” the press release said.
It is noted that the tourist group was registered, and the rafters were equipped according to safety requirements and wore life jackets. The search and rescue operation involved 14 people and 5 pieces of equipment.
The Snezhnaya River flows through the territory of Buryatia and the Irkutsk region. The lower course of the river, located about 30 kilometers from the mouth, is the border between neighboring regions.
