A guardian from the Nizhny Novgorod region who cut off a child’s finger received 4.5 years

A man from the Nizhny Novgorod region, who beat a girl taken into custody and cut off the phalanx of her finger, was sentenced to 4.5 years in a general regime colony. His wife, also guilty of child abuse, received 3.5 years, the regional prosecutor’s office reports.
The court found that in 2019 the couple were appointed guardians of an 8-year-old girl. From June 2019 to October 2022, they subjected the girl to mental violence, beat her, insulted her, forced her to eat soap, and doused her with cold water. In one case, the adoptive father hit the girl on the head with a metal ladle.
In September 2022, the adoptive father, in the garage of his house, in the presence of his wife, cut off the child’s nail phalanx of his right finger.
